Selection Process
Applications for the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2022 will be considered by a panel consisting of practicing artists and arts programmers/curators:
- Hetain Patel, artist and 2019 Jarman Award winner
- Rehana Zaman, artist and 2019 Jarman Award nominee
- Susanna Chisholm, Programme Development Director, FVU
- Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts, Jerwood Arts
- Holly Grange, Exhibitions Curator, Leeds Art Gallery
What does the selection process involve?
All applications will be individually reviewed by internal readers at both Jerwood Arts and Film and Video Umbrella. A longlist of approximately 60 applications will be shared with the full selection panel to feedback on. A shortlist of approximately 20 applications will be made using this feedback and these will be discussed by the selection panel in depth. From this list the selection panel will choose four or more applicants to invite for interview.
Interviews will take place on 15 October 2020. The selected applicants will be interviewed by the five members of the panel. Two applicants will then be chosen to receive the Awards.
We will be in touch with all candidates by 14 October 2020 to update you on the progress of your application.
What criteria will applications be assessed by?
- The quality of the artist’s current practice, including the most recent examples of ideas and projects
- The quality of the artist’s proposed work
- The feasibility of the proposal
- The potential impact of the award on the professional development of the artist
